Prompted by Elizabeth during the March 2018 Muse Fusion! The jockey bird is a small bird that follows herds of horses to eat the insects they disturb. They are intrepid creatures who dart ahead of or behind horses despite the stamping hooves, sometimes even perching on a horse's head or back. Skittish horses dislike them and may snap or kick at the bird's quick, startling motions. Mellower horses tolerate them because the jockey birds will all fly away if they notice a predator approaching, which helps to warn the horses. Their alarm call is a shrill "giyap" sound.
