Poetry

Write a poem (any style) that builds off an existing story. It can continue the story, or show the POV of a character during the story, or show the story in some different way. If there are fewer than five new entries, you may submit one previously completed piece for this contest. Unlimited new entries are allowed.


Fiction

The topic is: 'Holidays'. This can be a vacation, or a specific Torn World celebration. You may invent a new holiday, if you wish, but if you do, please provide a brief description of the celebration to be added to our reference library. If there are fewer than five new entries, you may submit one previously completed piece for this contest. Unlimited new entries are allowed.


Artwork

Illustrate a story or poem. Any story, any poem, any media of art, as long as it's based on something that's been submitted prior to October 1! If there are fewer than five new entries, you may submit one previously completed piece for this contest. Unlimited new entries are allowed.


Metafiction

For metafiction, we're looking for places to go! These would be entries in a travelguide, as written by a reviewer, and may be set in any city. Specifically, we're looking for business establishments: restaurants, shops, theatres, museums and other tourist destinations (or favored local hangouts).

For example:

Name: Haze of the Moon
Location: Affamarg, downtown
Owner (if known):
Service: Cafe and Smokehouse
Rating (necessity, desire or luxury - or a combination): Desire class
Details: Haze of the Moon is a low-key women's-only club that offers spiced drinks, specialty snacks and light meals, as well as two kinds of smoking rooms, with lots of opportunity for socialization. The two smoking rooms, separate from the primary room, are for hazeleaf (a legal recreational drug) and moon blossom flower (a natural method of birth control). Moderate quality food, excellent personal service. Only women, of puberty age or older, are permitted in this establishment.
Extras (things you might not find in a travel guide!): Haze of the Moon is primarily a locals' establishment, catering to the equivalent of upper-middle class, with a tight-knit regular clientele - a stranger on their own may find a rather chilly reception, but regular visitors will be welcomed by name with their favored drink. Though not on the menu, gossip is the primary staple of Haze of the Moon.

Awards: Three awards will be given in each category. (1st - 3rd place) The 1st place winner will receive a prize from our donated prize selection! However, each entrant may only receive one prize per contest, and a maximum of two prizes per 6 month period. Please note - if there are three or fewer entries in any category, or two or fewer entrants, only one award will be granted. viewtopic.php?f=20&t=134 <- prizes!

The canon board reserves the right to award an extra prize for exceptional work or special accomplishment.

I'm wondering if New Year's Eve is a good choice for the deadline. I suspect the holidays are likely to lead to fewer submissions, even if only because people get caught up in family and parties and all the holiday things and forget they haven't quite finished and/or submitted something yet. What do people think about delaying the deadline to something like January 7?

Wow--the deadline is TOMORROW!

Well, OK, Tuesday, but my computer tells me it's the 14th here in Milwaukee, and I have to work in the morning. So, we have probably 50 hours before midnight Alaska time on the 15th.

But gosh, time flies!
