Astronomy of Torn World - Location
Written By: Amelia Margetts (Writer), Ellen Million (Research), Nicole Robertson (Editor)
Notes on the planet, its sun, and its three moons

Torn World's Sun:

Spectral class: G2
Luminosity: .8328
Mass: .953 Solar Masses (1.888*10^30 kg)
Diameter: 1.343 *10^6 km
Angular diameter: .577 degrees

Comparisons with Earth's sun: Although Torn World's sun appears larger in their sky than the Earth's sun does in ours, it actually has slightly less mass. Its luminosity (brightness) is also a little less than the Earth's sun but it shares the same color.

Torn World:

Insolation factor: 1.047
Distance from Sun in Astronomical Units: .8917 (133,409,000 km)
Revolution (year) length:
- 305 Torn World days
- 315.04 Terran days
- .8625 Terran years
Rotation (day) length:
- 20 Torn World hours
- 24.79 Terran hours
- 1.033 Terran days
Mass: 5.253*10^24 kg
Mean radius: 5987 km
Mean density: 5.844 g/cm3
Surface gravity: 9.80665 m/s2

Comparisons with Earth: The slightly higher insolation factor (degree of incoming solar radiation) means that Torn World receives a bit more sunlight than Earth. The planet's mean density is also a little greater than Earth's, which probably points to a larger concentration of metals within it. However, Torn World's surface gravity is exactly the same as Earth's.

Torn World's Moons:

Moon #1 (main moon)
Distance from Planet: 437,902.7 km
Orbital period (sidereal month):
- 34.2 Torn World days
- 35.3 Terran days
Time from full moon to full moon (synodic month):
- 38.52 Torn World days
- 37.29 Terran days
Mass: 7.8852*10^22 kg
Mean radius: 1842 km
Mean density: 3.012 g/cm3
Angular diameter: .482 degrees

Comparisons with Earth's Moon: Torn World's main moon is a little less dense than Earth's moon but a little greater in mass. However, due to its angular diameter, this moon appears smaller in their sky than the Earth's moon does in ours. Therefore, their sun would show more corona around the edges of the main moon during solar eclipses.

Moon #2
Dimensions: 123 108 97 km
Mass: 3.621*10^8

Moon #3
Dimensions: 66 43 37 km
Mass: 2.80*10^7 kg

Notes on the secondary moons: Torn World's secondary moons are Trojan moons, occupying the fourth and fifth Lagrange points relative to the orbit of the main moon (60 degrees ahead and 60 degrees behind the main moon, respectively). In their sky, these moons would appear as two bright stars, the larger one preceding the moon and the smaller one trailing behind it. The density of the secondary moons also suggest some mineral and ice content, which only adds to their brightness. They have the same orbital period and phase cycle as the main moon but do not have synchronized phases.
