Alainya's Blanket: A Summer-Colored Sky   1520.10.11
Creators: Deirdre / Wyld_Dandelyon (Writer)
A hand-made blanket is more than twists of yarn.
Posted: 12/19/10      [No comments yet] ~ 117 words.

Ribbons fly high in the sky
Others glistening, maybe listening,
Clear colors dance the wide expanse
Sunset-stained clouds glow bright

Here, below we have so much snow
And slow, lazy nights under the lights
Telling stories of past glories
Wise words first said by ancestors

Babies walking, elders talking
Suitors carving beads of bone
Snow melts from rangers' felts and pelts
When endless stew draws them home

The girl's been sitting, smiling, knitting
Lengths of blue and white and more
One length glitters, another's littered with
Bright scrap butterflies in flight

Colors strewn across the bunk
She fiddles 'til they fit just so
And stitches tight the ribbons bright
A warm sky to seal out winter's cold

Author's Notes

I couldn't put the vision I had in my head of this blanket into Wide Sky With Small Creatures, the story ended long before Alainya could make the lengths that become the blanket. And I cannot knit, so instead I wove my vision of Alainya's blanket for you in words.
