Characters Featured:

Muddy water, plain blue boat
Long haired child loves to float
Scraps of dinner, cut quite small
Baby skycats, sitting tall

Shred of chicken tossed up high
Pink paws reach as it flies by
Rough tongue cleans sweet grease from fur
Then so soft, she starts to purr

Chicken tossed, and bits of cow
Kittens prowl along the bough
Then a brave one leaps and glides
Timid sibling hops and slides

Bits of meat land on the prow
Kittens get more eager now
The girl adds more smelly bait
And sits still, tries hard to wait

Then one kitten leans too far
The child clutches her scrap jar
Skycat spreads her legs to glide
Toward the boat—and lands inside

Distant scraps are gobbled up
There’s more meat right in that cup
Softly, kitten stalks the snack
Grabs a bite, and then jumps back

Belly stuffed, she cleans her paw
Sniffs a toe that’s by her jaw
Tickled, the girl’s laugh is gay—
Startled skycat leaps away.

Author's Notes

Who could resist prompts like pink paws, and wanting to keep him, and the beautiful color blue, and lakes, and that elusive first touch? So, the lake mutated into a swamp...can I keep the kitty? Please?
