torn away   poem
Creators: Elizabeth Barrette (Writer), Valerie Joanne Higgins (Patron)
This is an elegy for the late Valerie Higgins, a Torn World contributor.

-- an elegy for Valarie Higgins (valdary)

a snap of reality giving way,
sudden as glass breaking,
ragged as cloth ripping --

gone in a blink,
flick of a bird's feather,
twitch of a cat's tail --

blanket unravels into yarn,
yarn unplies into fluff,
fluff floats into air --

gone like a tuft of seedsilk,
like a paper butterfly on bright wings,
lofted on a distant wind --

sky opens like a gate,
clouds parting wide,
sunbeams laddering up --

gone to another world,
turned around time's corner,
taking up a new task --

only beads and memories remain,
after-images of friendship
pressed like footprints in a drying riverbank
