Pull Your Ropes   Poem
Creators: Elizabeth Barrette (Writer)
Duurludirj sailors prepare for a storm.
Posted: 09/26/11      [1 Comment] ~ 75 words.

Clouds on the horizon --
Women, pull your ropes!
Now the wind is risin' --
Seamen, pull your ropes!

There's a storm a-coming --
Women, pull your ropes!
Hear the sails a-drumming --
Seamen, pull your ropes!

Batten down the hatches --
Women, pull your ropes!
Fasten all the latches --
Seamen, pull your ropes!

Rush and make her ready --
Women, pull your ropes!
We will hold her steady --
Seamen, pull your ropes!

Author's Notes

This poem was posted as the freebie for the September 2011 Muse Fusion. It was inspired by a prompt from LJ user Ariestess.

The Duurludirj islands are known for violent storms. This is a sea chantey, intended as a working song to guide two teams of sailors -- in this case, divided by gender -- as they make ready for bad weather.
