Jrilii rubbed the mare's nose, singing wordlessly because she couldn't think of anything to say. It was all she could do to keep her voice calm; her thoughts were another matter altogether. She wanted to protest that of course the mare and both of her foals would be fine, had to be fine, but she knew that was only the best outcome--and most of the time, the harsh reality of life was far from the best one could wish for.
