The alien sight that finally swam into view was not something either of them could possibly have imagined: a sheltered valley spread out below them, crowded with trees and plants so strange that Reqem was not sure they should be identified as either. They ranged in color through the rainbow and climbed sheer cliff faces like...

"Lichen," Imain said in awe. "It looks like lichen."

Reqem rubbed at his dark-addled eyes. "Lichen doesn't grow to that size," he insisted.
