This is a brief introduction to all developed northern characters at Torn World. All artwork and stories that a character appears in is linked in their full character sheet - click on the picture, or their name for more information about them!

These characters are snow-unicorn riders and northerners, though they may not presently be located in the north. Note that this list only includes fully developed characters - there are many more bit characters waiting for further details!

Alainya ~Adoptable Character! ~ Northern character

Alainya is a curious, intelligent, and determined six year old. Recently she has expressed a desire to be a hunter, but she has also showed interest in cooking and healing herbs and even storytelling.

Anler ~Owned by Layla Lawlor ~ Northern character

Anler is a ranger from Fala, Birka, and Tetefii's age-set. He is easygoing and passive, a natural follower, and gets along well with most people.

An almost devious woman, balancing precariously on the edge of decency. An excellent drummer with perfect tempo and a skilled leatherworker.

Birka ~Non-adoptable Character ~ Northern character

Birka is a pleasant person, easy to be around and easy to like. She is quietly observant, careful not to offend and works diligently at whatever task is before her. She is tall, dark-haired and blue-eyed.

Dalvo is young and good looking, and is learning to make the best of that. He traded beads with his age-mate Shraalan right after their final adulthood test, and now she is pregnant. He dreams of finding rich ancient caches and loves exploring the wilderness.

Dlameda ~Owned by Holly H. ~ Northern character

Dlameda is a quiet, competent man who enjoys his position as a ranger for Itadesh. He feels most alive when he's facing danger or working to beat the odds. He is also a healer, and for more than a decade served as Itadesh's primary healer, but now that there's another healer, he is glad he's no longer stuck in the village all the time. Now he's hoping to find some excitement, a little danger, and perhaps a little romance.

Dorje is a woman whose unfortunate past overshadows her present, making it difficult for her to enjoy life. She is competent at many domestic skills and usually willing to lend a hand with whatever needs doing.

Eshra is a ranger born in Itakith who moves to Itadesh after a personal tragedy. She cares for snow-unicorns and hunts game in the wilderness.

Fala is a Northern ranger noted for her skills as a guide. She often leads hunting, gathering, or exploration parties. Enthusiastic and always ready to help do what needs to be done, Fala has many friends and lovers.

Ikaluu is slender and intense, stronger than she looks, and curious about everything. She is the second eldest child in Alainya's age-set

Ilav ~Adoptable Character! ~ Northern character

Ilav is a tall and lanky young man in the same age-set as Areluu, Lenarai and Enlaar. By preference he keeps to himself, helping wherever he's needed. He's especially popular among the raisers when they're short-handed.

Ivara ~Adoptable Character! ~ Northern character

Ivara is a strikingly attractive, fit older woman. She thinks of herself primarily as a dancer, but her primary role is as an elder and mediator. She teaches hunting and snowy-training, and helps mind small children. Her necklace is well-fringed with descendants' beads.

Jrilii ~Owned by Deirdre / Wyld_Dandelyon ~ Northern character

Jrilii loves snow unicorns and sees increasing the herds as vital to the survival of her people. She is practical and good at outdoor skills. The oldest in her age-set, she was raised to be a leader, but she wasn't expecting to be the leader of an important excursion mere weeks after becoming an adult. When she and her age-mates see some wild snow-unicorns, she is thrown into that role, and takes that responsibility very seriously.

Kalitelm ~Adoptable Character! ~ Northern character

Kalitelm is an accomplished healer, with an active curiosity about the world around her. She suffers from Amukiiron, a type of dwarfism similar to Diastrophic Dysplasia which is particular to the north, and as a result has chosen to remain a Domestic, but she loves hearing travelers' tales. She lives in a house with frail elders, and treats patients there or in their own homes.

Kativa is an active, cheerful, chattery young woman who is impulsive and generous.

Kether ~Owned by Ellen Million ~ Northern character

Kether is as patient as the sea, but more gentle. A northern ranger, he is a big man with an easy smile.

Krethel ~Owned by Elizabeth Barrette ~ Northern character

Krethel is an elegant older woman, sweet but occasionally a bit smothering. As Itrelir's senior healer, her expertise includes chronic illnesses and attending births or deaths.

Lenarai ~Owned by Lorna (Comtessa) ~ Northern character

Lenarai is an open and honest woman. Content with her life and happy with producing children. She looks after her possessions and gives respect where it is deserved but is sometimes oblivious to the thoughts of those around her. Find her by the fire listening to a well told tale whilst embroidering a coat or by a cooking pot stirring that evenings dinner. Sometimes she is found with her Uncle, Lenaroth.

Lenaroth ~Owned by Toni Sturtevant ~ Northern character

Lenaroth is a Ranger, and is notable for his skill at off-color jokes and bawdy stories, and his ability to fade into the landscape, even keeping different winter and summer coats and dying his hair green in summer to enhance the effect. He is kind-hearted and generous, and very loyal to his friends.

Marai ~Adoptable Character! ~ Northern character

Marai is a plump, motherly woman who works in the infant-house. Because she is deaf, this gives her a safe and comfortable place to work -- and she has no trouble sleeping through the night, even when babies don't.

Nrath ~Owned by Elizabeth Barrette ~ Northern character

Nrath is a boy of Itrelir. He's very close with his age-mates, especially Karavai's son Druuth and Amirel's granddaughter Vrimani. Nrath is the grandson of Krethel, Itrelir's senior healer, and his knack for trauma care already has him studying to become a healer as an adult.

Ortein ~Owned by Deirdre / Wyld_Dandelyon ~ Northern character

Ortein is tall and dark and a little shy. He's a jack of all trades, and Jrilii's constant companion, so he has trained to become a ranger. He's glad that trying a month with Jrilii did not make their friendship uncomfortable.

Shraalan ~Owned by Deirdre / Wyld_Dandelyon ~ Northern character

Shraalan is a pretty young adult, and the first of her age-set to become pregnant. She makes her own clothes, and enjoys making festive clothing for her age-mates and sometimes for other people as well. She has skills in food gathering, herbalism, and even complex first aid.

Tekoth is an artistic carver who enjoys trading his work for embellished patches for his clothes. Slightly accident prone though quick to smile about it.

Tenyo is a childbearer and weaver of Itakith, known for her fine cloth. Due to a childhood accident, she has no eyes and her face is badly scarred.

Tetefii ~Adoptable Character! ~ Northern character

Tetefii is a pretty, friendly person with a mischievous streak. She prefers to work on the edges of the village, gathering materials for her many craft projects.

Tobern ~Adoptable Character! ~ Northern character

Tobern is a ranger of the snow-unicorn riders. He is an exceptionally skilled climber and has loved climbing from a very young age. Confident of his own skills, he often does things considered reckless by his elders.

Vlanir's elders would like to see him choosing a profession, but all that's on his mind these days is Jrilii.

Vlaran is a lively young woman who lives in Itrelir. She prefers women as lovers. Her specialty is fishing, though she is also good at embroidery.
