Marniri loves the marketAuthor's Notes
where the farmers bring carts
full of fresh fruits and vegetables,
licenses neatly tacked to the wooden sides.
She glances at her older brother Rai,
who is methodically sorting through fruits,
gently squeezing and sniffing them,
putting some back and some in his basket.
He loves the market as much as she does.
In spring and early summer,
some of the farmers sell seeds as well.
Each little packet has a picture
of what it will produce, and instructions,
and a license for growing those plants.
This poem came out of the August 2013 Muse Fusion. It was inspired by a prompt from Deirdre Murphy.
